Good Gali Miss Moli - My Partner, My Teacher
Moli is my ever curious, sweet and opinionated Arabian mare. She is 15 years old this year and I have had her since she was 4. Moli was my first horse as an adult. I purchased her the way everyone says you shouldn't - love at first site. After seeing an online ad, my husband and I traveled about 3hrs to see her...I was about 40 feet from her when I saw her and I grabbed Randy by the arm and whispered "Put her in the trailer!" Oh my goodness, she was so beautiful! Soft eyes and a regal posture...tail and neck curled up - she seemed to be saying look at how beautiful I am. She didn't walk, she floated - my heart had no chance. That's really not the best way to get a good deal on a horse, but I've never regretted it, even with all the challenges we faced together.
A registered full Egyptian Arabian, Moli's official name is "Good Gali Miss Moli". The breeder's original plan was to show her, but she injured her front foot early on and it was suspected that she cut her tendon. The people I got her from picked her up cheap because of it and then found out that she was very prone to accident and had a very high flight instinct. (they didn't tell me this, but it didn't take me long to figure out). She was healing from a deep cut on her hind leg and had a few scars when I purchased her. No one had ever ridden her, but I was told she had a saddle on a few times.
Moli and I went through a lot together before I learned about Parelli and Natural Horsemanship. We were getting along okay, but her tendency to run from anything that scared her made her unsafe to ride. We had a huge accident that left me in the hospital for awhile and led me to search for a better way....enter Parelli. Once I started learning the Parelli system, I was able to identify Moli's issues and found better ways to help her deal with them. Today she is very confident and has learned to trust me. It was amazing how quickly this method of understanding horses helped me to help her. The Parelli methods helped me to see how very smart she was and how much she was trying to be my partner. We make a great team and I can't wait to get back to actually riding her at level three in the Parelli program. She is battling laminitis right now and that journey will be another thread on my blog.
